Ozark Carding Mill is operated by Jim and Gail White. Jim has been involved in Quality
Assurance and electronics for 30 years. He also has knowledge of machinery and has converted all our industrial grade equipment to, infinitely adjustable variable speed, allowing us to process a wide variety of fiber types.
Gail has a BA in Education. She has been involved in fiber and fiber arts for over 25 years. Ozark Carding began about 20 years ago as The Rabbit Wren, in Snohomish, WA. Gail has been a hand spinner for 25 or more years. She started spinning in order to spin the fiber from her 35 angora bunnies. The bunnies began as a 4-H project for our daughter, Donna. Gail is, also, a hand and machine knitter, and has done some weaving. Since beginning the business, spinning and hand knitting are about all she has time for.
In 1996, the mill moved to Warsaw, MO, where it was located for 12 years, on the family
farm. We raised Targhee sheep and processed the wool for retail sales for many years, along with processing for our customers. We added yarn spinning in 2003, and now specialize in spinning alpaca, wools and other fibers.
In 2000, Gail became a Certified Wool Classer. She has judged fleece shows in WI, NC, and MO. She also teaches classes in processing fibers, and yarn dyeing.
Jim retired from his job in 2007 and a move was made to Durant, OK to be closer to our daughter and her family. We live in town. The mill is located right next to the house, as it
was in Missouri. We both work in the mill now. Jim always has kept the machines running, adding improvements and monitoring quality control. Now he is our yarn spinner.
We travel to fiber related shows, such as Maryland Sheep and Wool, Fiber Retreat and Heart of America in MO, MI Fiber Festival, SAFF in NC and various Alpaca shows. We are always glad to bring your fibers home with us for processing to save you shipping costs. Of course, you may always ship directly to us using the shipping company of your choice.
Due to the high cost of fuel, we are canceling Michigan Fiber Festival. We are adding Christmas In July in OK. We are going to do our best to do SAFF in Oct. and Kid n’ Ewe and Llama’s Too in Boerne, TX. in Nov. If you are planning on dropping off fiber for processing, please call us so we can plan for space in our trailer. 580-745-9734
